How can public school districts become more transparent?

A leading proponent of school district internet-based transparency is Peyton Wolcott with her National School District Honor Roll of public school districts who have agreed to post their checkbook registers online.

In July 2007, Americans for Tax Reform collated transparency reforms at the state level from a number of different states.

Another organization that is making great strides in protecting parent's rights to know more about the goings-on in their school districts is Parent Advocates.

Maybe some of the public schools that agreed to post check registers onling had a motive besides transparency:

May 1, 2007: Proposal would put D300 FOIA info on Web. This proposal will allow school district administrators to post any FOIA inquiries the District receives online, as well as the requested documents.
