Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about filing an Open Records Request

Legal Disclaimer

The first areas you will want to think about are:

Do I need an attorney to help me?
What person or agency receives my request? (Where do I send it?)
Should I deliver my request in person or send it through regular mail, certified mail, fax or email?
How broad or narrow should the request be?
What's the best way to describe what I'm looking for?  What wording should I use?
When they send me the documents,
what form do I want those documents to be in and where should they send them?

More advanced areas you will eventually need to think about:

When You Don't Get What You Asked For
Is email public?
